Transform

What is a pivot?

A pivot is a reference point around which transformations such as rotation and scaling occur. In the context of a 3D model, the pivot determines the center of these transformations.

Pivot settings

Edit Pivot

With this you can edit the pivot point of a 3D model involving changing the position of the pivot point to better suit specific transformation needs, such as rotation, scaling, or translation. This can be particularly useful in various modeling and animation scenarios where precise control over the model's behavior is required. You can use the shortcut (ctrl +.) to edit a pivot point.

Why Edit the Pivot Point?

  • Enhanced Control: Placing the pivot point at a strategic location gives you better control over how the model rotates, scales, or moves.

  • Accurate Transformations: For certain models, the default pivot point may not be ideal for the intended transformations. Editing the pivot ensures that transformations are accurate and aligned with the desired reference point.

  • Animation Needs: In animations, the pivot point often needs to be at specific locations to achieve realistic motion. For example, the pivot for a door model should be at the hinges to simulate opening and closing accurately.

Reset Pivot for all nodes

Imagine you're working on a 3D model, like a robot or a car. Each part of your model (like the robot's arms, legs, or the car's wheels) has a special point called a "pivot." This pivot point is where the part turns around, gets bigger or smaller, or moves from. Resetting pivot resets the edited pivots back to the baked in pivots that are uploaded with the Objects. Why Reset the Pivot for All Parts?

Make Transformations Easier: When all parts have their pivots in the same kind of place (usually the middle), it’s difficult to animate the object. If you moved the pivots by accident or they got messed up, resetting them fixes that. Note: You can use the save pivot to my objects option to save the pivot on object level.
